Nursing Revalidation – A Dream Medical Guide
At Dream Medical, we understand that revalidation can be a daunting experience and so have developed a quick guide to help you through the procedure – offering links to relevant websites, answering important questions and giving you a list of requirements needed for this process.
What Is Revalidation?
As from April 2016, all Nurses and Midwifes will have to revalidate every three years with the NMC. This process will be replacing ‘Prep,’ and will need to be completed online.
To complete the revalidation online, you will need an NMC Online Account. If you haven’t already set one up, you can access the website here. https://www.nmc.org.uk/registration/nmc-online/
Once you have access to your NMC Online Account, in the top right hand corner you will see:
- Your NMC Pin Number
- Fee Expiry Date – (You will need to pay an annual fee to the NMC)
- Renewal Date – (This date is also your revalidation date)
Requirements Needed For Revalidation
The NMC has outlined a number of requirements that must be met before you can complete your revalidation; these are listed below:
- 450 practice hours, or 900 if renewing as both a nurse and midwife
- 35 hours of CPD including 20 hours of participatory learning
- Five pieces of practice-related feedback
- Five written reflective accounts
- Reflective discussion
- Health and character declaration
- Professional indemnity arrangement
- Confirmation
The NMC have an extensive guideline of what you need to do, to complete your portfolio for revalidation, which you can find here, ( http://revalidation.nmc.org.uk/what-you-need-to-do/ ) along with more information of each specific requirement.
